Sad Day for Puppets

Today's band of the week is "Sad Day for Puppets" hailing from Sweden. They've got an amazing melodic, longing and distant sound. Check out some of their tracks below:

And here's an interview with the band, borrowed from The Line of Best Fit

What was the first song that really caught your imagination?
A Swedish lullaby called ”Byssan Lull”.

What was the music your parents liked and do you think it’s influenced you at all?
My mother listened a lot to Bangles, Cyndi Lauper and Kate Bush when I was a kid, and I still love that music. Yes, I think it has influenced me.

What posters did you have on your wall as a kid?
Kiss, W.A.S.P and Motley Crue.

Which songs or albums would you play at a party?
I’d just play Surrender by Cheap Trick, over and over again.

Which songs remind you of a rainy day?
Almost any disco song.

Which album do you seek solace in when you are feeling sad?
Milk & Kisses by Cocteau Twins

Which album would you play when you wanted to get down to some lovin’?
I wouldn’t play any Cannibal Corpse-album.

What music was, or would be, the “first dance” at your wedding?
Mother by Danzig.

What was the first gig you went to as a paying customer?
Neil Young. I was fourteen, it was an outside venue and pearl jam was the support act.

Name the one song you think everyone should hear.
Plaster Caster by Kiss.

Which one artist do you think not enough people know about?
Television Personalities.

What’s the best thing you’ve heard recently?
MGMT. I really love the album, it’s full of great songs, and live they’re one of the coolest rock bands I’ve ever seen.

Dead or alive, what 5 acts would you have play with you at a festival?
Alice in Chains, The Cure, Kate Bush, Bette Midler and Neil Young.

We’d like you to make us a mix-tape. Pick five tracks with a theme of your choice.
Finest vocals ever:
Blind Melon – Soul One
Hole – Violet
AC/DC – If You Want Blood
Aerosmith – Cryin’
Joan Jett – Bad Reputation.

And finally, who would win in a fight: a stoat or a goat and why?
The goat, because of his advanced military training.

Woodpigeon

Check out my favorite band of the week, Woodpigeon.

Reminds me of sitting in the snow, reading books in the hallway at school, eating crisp apples right off the tree, dreaming when you're really young.

This is from a shoot I did for a Montreal based designer Christina Ledang. We shot in a fire station around Atwater Market, and I even got to slide down the pole! Too much fun...
